Carson Westbrook commits to Colorado
Deion Sanders and the Buffaloes added another recruit to this year's class on Tuesday. Carson Westbrook announced he would be the latest player to be Boulder bound as a preferred walk-on.
The 5-foot-11, 175-pound two-way stud from Schley County (Georgia) was a First Team All-State selection on both sides of the ball two years apart. He had 42 receptions for 735 yards and five touchdowns last year. A top 30 wideout in Georgia and second for D2 Region 6A. Additionally, he set the mark for GHSA career interceptions with a total of 16.
Westbrook is the latest receiver to join the Buffs from the Florida-Georgia region. He'll be the fifth on the spring roster, including returning starters Travis Hunter and Jimmy Horn, Jr., who were part of the initial wave in the transfer portal. He's also a two-sport athlete with similar skills to Coach Prime on the baseball diamond.
"Shedeur and Shilo Sanders, Travis Hunter, and Kam Mikell. Those guys are some of the best at what they do and I feel like I can really learn from them," Westbrook told BuffsBeat about coming to CU.
"There’s a huge pipeline that Coach Prime has going from Georgia to Colorado right now. "I’ve been talking with some of the other guys that will be making that transition and I think it will definitely make it easier knowing that I have some really cool guys going through this by my side."
Westbrook's commitment comes nearly a month into offseason strength and conditioning drills for the Buffs. He made a few official visits, including ones to Georgia, Georgia Tech, Colorado State, Columbia, and UMass.
Westbrook heads to Colorado after National Signing Day and before spring practices. He's now the 35th player in the 2024 combined class. The majority have come via the transfer portal, and he's the tenth high school recruit.
