Colorado Buffaloes star Travis Hunter has been named a first-team All-American by the Associated Press and Football Writers Association of America it was announced Monday. The sophomore earned the honors at the All-Purpose position, becoming the first Colorado Buffaloes player to do so. He’s the 64th first-team All-American in school history and first since tackle Nate Solder received the honor in 2010.

A generational talent, Hunter played both wide receiver and cornerback for the Buffaloes this fall. Despite sitting out three and a half games due to injury, he played in more snaps from scrimmage this season (1,032) than any other FBS player. Hunter finished with 57 catches for 721 yards and five touchdowns on offense. On defense, the Suwanee, GA native compiled 31 total tackles, five passes defended and three interceptions. He’s the first two-way player in the last 25 years to record at least 50 or more receptions and three or more interceptions in the same season. In comparison, former Denver Broncos stalwart Champ Bailey had 47 receptions and three interceptions for the Georgia Bulldogs in 1998.

Hunter was one of four Pac-12 players to be named first-team AP All-American and one of five named to the FWAA first-team. Five publications – the Water Camp, AP, FWAA, Sporting News and AFCA -- are used to determine whether a player earns consensus All-American honors. The Walter Camp does not award an all-purpose position. The Sporting News and AFCA teams are expected to be released later this week.
