Deion Sanders apologizes to CU fans and players: "We didn’t send them out right"

Coach Prime had a heartfelt press conference after home loss to Arizona

Deion Sanders wore his heart on his sleeve after his team's 34-31 loss to No. 21 Arizona on Saturday. The Colorado Buffaloes coach issued a few apologies to the fans and senior players.

“I apologize that we didn’t send them out right," Sanders said. We wanted to because they deserve it."

He also poured his feelings out for the Buffs fans, who helped sellout Folsom Field for the entire season. Sanders finished with a 2-4 home record in his FBS debut, which was a tremendous accomplishment.

“They’ve been supporting the heck out of us and they’ve been showing up and showing out," Sanders said. "Another sellout crowd that ended in disappointment, We’re so close. It’s what I told the team. But yet so far. We just simply, truly don’t know how to win yet.”

Sanders and the Buffs (4-6) set out to shock the world with the naysayers coming out in droves prior to the season. They earned a top 25 ranking with a 3-0 start and have lost six of the last seven games since. What hurts the most is all but one of Colorado's losses have come within a one-score margin.

CU led for a majority of Saturday's game until Arizona kicker Tyler Loop booted a 24-yard game-winning field goal as time expired. The third straight defeat against a ranked team late in the Buffs Pac-12 schedule.

“We just can’t get over that hump,” Sanders admitted.

Colorado can still make a bowl game, but they need two outstanding games, and one of them in a 'Rumble in the Rockies' post-Thanksgiving matchup with Utah. While hope is bleek, anything is possible with this team and Coach Prime.
