Secondary Perspective: Deion Sanders makes offensive coaching change in Boulder

Coach Prime puts Shurmur in charge of the offense ahead of Oregon State
In this story:

Deion Sanders had to address the problems with the Colorado's offense and decided to shift play-calling duties to Pat Shurmur. While this isn't a demotion for Sean Lewis for his role as Buffs offensive coordinator, it's going to be interesting to see how Coach Prime allows everything to play out.

The problems haven't originated with Lewis' calls but rather a lack of consistency with the offensive line. I'm not entirely sure how this move will alter those issues. Maybe we see more designed runs from Shedeur Sanders and the Buffs backfield? In any regard, this is an interesting move on the cusp of Saturday's Homecoming matchup with 16th-ranked Oregon State.

Shurmur was hired as the Buffaloes quality control analyst and moves to an assistant role as the latest title in his career. He was a head coach in the NFL with the Browns and NY Giants. Many in the Denver area remember Shurmur as the Broncos OC starting in 2020.

Colorado's offense has averaged 32 point per game this season, which is on pace for the best marks in over 20 years. They struggled to do much against UCLA, which features several future NFL stars on the interior. We'll see if Shurmur can dial up anything contrary to Lewis' overall scheme in the final four games.

Colorado hosts 16th-ranked OSU at Folsom Field on Saturday. A Pac-12 After Dark 10 p.m. kickoff with coverage on ESPN.
