If CU's Offensive Line Actually is Good Now ... Look Out
Mel Tucker has been talking up the offensive line since the win over Arizona State, in which the Buffaloes had nearly 500 yards.
“I saw them strain in the run game,” Tucker told BuffZone. “I saw guys begin to move people against their will, really dig down especially in crunch time and get it done, and make a conscious effort with pad level and power and being able to run the football and move the pile and things like that.
“I’m beginning to see that (consistency) and it’s because of the way they work and the way they are coached. They believe in what they’re doing.”
It could be that he is throwing a sweetener out there to a unit that has taken its lumps. But it also could be that the CU offensive line is coming together. This is a new composition after all, with new players replacing old players and old players playing new positions. Offensive lines age like wine -- the longer they have, the better they get.
Ideally, you get a core offensive line together for a four- or five-year run. This group won't have nearly that much time, but it would make sense that it would improve rapidly over the first month of the season.
This was the biggest area of concern for the offense heading into the year, and it has been a bit of an issue this year too. But if that line becomes top-half-of-the-conference good, Colorado is going to be really tough to stop.
