Colorado offensive coordinator Sean Lewis will be moving on to take the head coaching position at San Diego State, according to ESPN's Pete Thamel.

The first major shake-up to Deion Sanders' staff to start his second year in Boulder. Lewis was recently demoted and stripped of play-calling duties, which were given to former NFL assistant Pat Shurmur.

Lewis, who came to Colorado after being the head coach of Kent State, went 24-31 in his five seasons with the Golden Flashes and led them to a bowl game in 2019 and 2021.

The 37-year-old helped lead Colorado's offense with Shedeur Sanders putting up record marks this year. It came with a fair amount of scrutiny after CU's offensive line gave up 54 sacks. The frequent hits caused a fractured back for Sanders, who missed the season finale at Utah.

Lewis becomes the second departure from Sanders' staff. Tim Brewster resigned on Sunday after holding down tight end coaching responsibilities.

Byron Leftwich has been rumored to be in consideration as Colorado's new offensive coordinator. The former NFL OC would be a great fit for Sanders.
