Sean Lewis putting final touches on Colorado's offense ahead of TCU

Buffs offensive coordinator ready to shake things up outside of Dallas

The Colorado Buffaloes are a day away from the countdown being in the single digits for the season opener with 17th-ranked TCU.

Deion Sanders' squad is hitting the final stretch of Fall Camp focused on the Big Noon affair and a new era for Colorado Football. One of the most underrated additions to Coach Prime's staff was offensive coordinator Sean Lewis. The former Kent State head coach brought a high-flying approach to Boulder and matches that with a very talented Shedeur Sanders at quarterback for the Buffs.

"We build a team, and every single day matters," Lewis said after Tuesday's practice. "But there's 12 Saturdays that count, and now we're turning the page to the ones that truly count. We're 11 days out from playing a really good opponent, and we think we've got a really good team."

Lewis was tasked with putting together several position groups from scratch. Only nine of CU's players from 2022 are still in Boulder, and many on the current team came from a wide base of FBS programs around the country. It's a melting pot of talent ready to be efficient.

"Go fast, be efficient, stay on schedule," Lewis said. "We want to work and find ways to create a numerical advantage. And then, if all those things are going to be even, we want to create leverage so that we can outflank and take away the edge of the defense."

Lewis knows Colorado has an advantage with no game film available for TCU to digest. It doesn't change Sonny Dykes' approach to the huge matchup, but the Buffs hope it will throw some curves into the equation. However, it's all about sticking to the plan going into the season and riding it out to the end.

"We really pride ourselves on our kids growing their situational awareness and their self-awareness," Lewis noted. "How we can stay on schedule, how we can stay on task, and just treat practice like a game each and every single day."

Colorado heads to Fort Worth for the Sept. 2 opener with TCU. It's Coach Prime's FBS debut against last year's national runner-up (10 a.m./TV:FOX).
