Shedeur Sanders was given the 2022 Deacon Jones Trophy in a ceremony this past week. The highest honor handed down by the Black College Football Hall of Fame recognizes the best player from an HBCU.

The Colorado Buffaloes QB put together an impressive season at Jackson State with 3,732 yards, 46 total touchdowns, and six INTs. Prime’s son also threw for 300+ yards in five games including 438 yards against Jerry Rice’s Alma Mater Miss. Valley St. on September 24.

Sanders led JSU to a SWAC championship for a second straight season. He left for Colorado as one of the most decorated players in HBCU history after signing NIL deals with Gatorade, Beats by Dre, and BRADY. ‘SS2’ aims to be the first Buffs passer to surpass the 3,000-yard plateau since 2014.

Colorado opens the season near Sanders’ old stomping grounds in Fort Worth against TCU on Sept. 2.
