Urban Meyer says Colorado's Travis Hunter doesn't need to practice

CU's two-way star is turning heads
In this story:

Urban Meyer was very complementary about the Colorado Buffaloes and the shape of the program going into the 2023 football season. The FOX Sports analyst recently made a visit to Boulder ahead of the huge opener with TCU on Sept. 2. Meyer said he didn't know what to expect but was pleasantly surprised with Deion Sanders' progress.

"(Deion) has hired some really good coaches," Meyer said. "I went to the meetings and I watched practice. They have I believe seventy new players. I called this thing the grand experiment and I'm telling you, Colin... That was not what I expected. I saw a very good team with talented players."

One of the most talked about prior to the season was Travis Hunter. The former five-star and Jackson State standout received praise from Meyer for his outstanding athletic ability and even compared him to one of his former NFL stars.

"I looked at Prime and said, 'I had one of those called Percy Harvin,' Meyer said. "I just pushed him to the side. You don't need to practice (Hunter) much longer. He's that good."

The Buffs added to the roster in a few short months with Hunter being one of those making the transition via the transfer portal. The 6-foot-1, 180 pound athlete is expected to be a two-way player for Coach Prime this year.

Meyer and the rest of FOX's Big Noon crew will be on hand in Fort Worth, Texas for Sanders' Power Five debut. It's the first game of a back-to-back for Colorado as they'll welcome Nebraska into Boulder to renew the long-standing rivalry in week two.
