Duke Basketball Eyes Premier 3-Point Weapon in Transfer Portal
In the era of the transfer portal, potential impact players enter their names at different hours of the day. If coaches want to secure the best possible rosters, they must constantly be on alert for when transfers become available. Duke basketball head coach Jon Scheyer seems to be on high alert.

Despite only entering his name into the transfer portal late last night, Dayton graduate transfer Koby Brea told On3’s Jamie Shaw that Scheyer and the Blue Devils have already been in contact, along with a number of other programs.
Fellow bluebloods Kansas and UConn have reached out to him, as well as Arkansas, Arizona, Illinois, Indiana, Louisville, Miami, Mississippi State, Oregon, Penn State, St. Johns, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, Virginia Tech, and Xavier.
The 6-foot-6, 205-pound Brea has played four seasons at Dayton and boasted the best 3-point percentage in all of college basketball last season at 49.8 percent. Across 33 games, he averaged 11.1 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 1.2 assists while playing 29.1 minutes per game primarily off the bench.
Duke basketball is set to return key backcourt pieces in Tyrese Proctor and Caleb Foster but has already lost Jared McCain to the NBA plus Jaylen Blakes and Jaden Schutt to the transfer portal. Whether or not captain Jeremy Roach returns for a fifth and final year, the Blue Devils could use an experienced guard off the bench.
Brea’s ability to shoot from beyond the arc as well as his experience and willingness to come off the bench make him an especially intriguing transfer for Scheyer and the rest of the Duke basketball program.
It remains to be seen just how significant the reported interest between Koby Brea and the Blue Devils will be, but it’s certainly a situation to monitor in the coming days.
The Blue Devils are set to host Syracuse transfer Maliq Brown on a visit later this week and have also been linked to another forward in Purdue transfer Mason Gillis.
