Cassius Stanley on breaking Zion Williamson's vertical leap record
Cassius Stanley is making people forget about Zion Williamson.
Stanley may have been a four-star recruit and rated fourth out of the four incoming freshmen by most recruiting services, but he’s already got a spot in Duke lore.
If you remember, last year, Williamson out-leaped the device Duke used to measure verticals, requiring them to rig something up to see just how high he could fly.
Stanley broke Williamson’s year-old record when Duke conducted the combine testing for the team last week.
“I mean, I always knew I was athletic, but you see Zion—he is what he is. He’s just so great. Being able to have a record like that, being in the same conversation with him is a great blessing,” he said.
He has yet to appear in a game, but his name will be etched in the … powerpoint presentation in the weight room?
“It’s always good to be in the record books,” he said. “In the weight room, we have all the records on the board, on a slide show. Being able to know that—hopefully—for maybe a year—I’ll hold that record, that’s just a great thing.”
If nothing else, the accomplishment gives him a reason to hit the weight room, to wait and see when they add his name.
“They haven’t updated it yet, but when it’s up there, I’ll be pretty excited,” he said.
Stanley also talked about modeling his on-ball defense after Jordan Goldwire and the meeting the social media team had with the freshmen when they first arrived on campus.
