Coach Mike Krzyzewski has said several times that he has a “burner” account on Twitter, where he remains anonymous and follows people. He doesn’t see himself ever being on Twitter as a public figure, however.

“There’s only so much,” he said at ACC media day, pointing to his head. “I go back to something I learned as an Army officer. We should function on a need to know basis. I really believe that. So I follow a number of guys, because I feel I need to know something about them. I don’t think anyone needs to know anything more about me. There probably never needs to be another story written about me.”

Krzyzewski doesn’t think he needs to tweet about himself. He’s also not interested in reading other people’s tweets.

“I’m all that interested in what people think,” he said. “I’m interested in what my guys think. I’m not trying to win a poll or something, but I understand. I think it serves its purpose. I’ll never ever be on it.”

Almost immediately, Krzyzewski softened his position, leaving himself the prerogative to change his mind.

“When I say that, I shouldn’t say never,” he said, “because when I stop coaching, whatever I’m doing, I might then feel that would activate … something like the Emily Krzyzewski Center (a non-profit community service center in Durham named after Coach K’s mother) or the V Foundation (for cancer research) or whatever. But right now, it’d be conflicting. When I’m not coaching, maybe it wouldn’t be.”
