A few weeks ago, former sharpshooting Duke basketball guard and retired 15-year NBA journeyman JJ Redick looked like the frontrunner to join play-by-play voice Mike Breen and analyst Doris Burke on ABC/ESPN's No. 1 broadcast team after Doc Rivers left the group to become the Milwaukee Bucks head coach.

Now, it appears Redick, in his first year on the network's No. 2 team with play-by-player Ryan Ruocco and analyst Richard Jefferson, has received confirmation of the career upgrade. On Monday afternoon, The Athletic's Andrew Marchand reported that the 39-year-old will be alongside Breen and Burke for the NBA Finals in June.

Furthermore, Marchand noted that Redick is set to enjoy "the most prestigious spot in NBA broadcasting for the rest of the season" and "through the playoffs." He summarized the candid, well-spoken Blue Devil treasure's impressive ascension in the business:

"Redick’s rapid rise in media began during his 15-year NBA career. He first started his popular podcast, 'The Old Man And The Three,' as a player before joining ESPN upon his retirement in September 2021. He made headlines on Stephen A. Smith’s 'First Take' and then soon moved to calling games."

JJ Redick remains the all-time Duke basketball scoring leader with his 2,769 points across four thrilling campaigns (2002-06) in Durham. And his No. 4 is among the program's 13 retired jersey numbers forever hanging from Cameron Indoor Stadium's rafters.
