Duke Basketball: Latest on Injuries to Two Blue Devil Starters
It sounds like there's a chance that full-time Duke basketball starters Jeremy Roach and Mark Mitchell will both be in action when the seventh-ranked Blue Devils (13-3, 4-1 ACC) host unranked Pitt (10-6, 1-4 ACC) at 8 p.m. ET Saturday. Then again, it's possible neither will play as they recover from their knee injuries.
"We got imaging done for Jeremy," second-year Duke head coach Jon Scheyer noted during Monday's ACC teleconference about the senior guard's status following the injury he sustained midway through the second half of Saturday's 84-79 home win over Georgia Tech. "We got positive news, where we don't feel it's anything serious...
"I doubt he's able to practice for the next few days, but hopeful for Saturday...Mark, same thing."
Mitchell sat out Saturday's contest. Thirty minutes before tipoff, the Duke basketball social media team announced he has a sprained knee. It marked the sophomore forward's second absence this season, as he was sidelined for the season opener in early November with an ankle injury.
Roach, who returned to the court against Georgia Tech for less than a minute before heading back to the bench, is one of three Blue Devils who have played and started every outing this season, along with freshman guard Jared McCain and sophomore forward Kyle Filipowski.
Jeremy Roach and Mark Mitchell rank No. 2 and No. 3, respectively, among Duke players in scoring at 14.6 and 12.2 points per game.
