Another Duke basketball player dealing with injury

Kyle Filipowski might sit out Duke basketball's home game on Tuesday night.

Duke basketball freshman forward Kyle Filipowski sprained his ankle on the last play of regulation in Saturday's 69-62 overtime loss at then-No. 8 Virginia, first-year Blue Devil head coach Jon Scheyer revealed during his Zoom chat with ACC media on Monday morning.

Filipowski, Duke basketball's leading scorer (14.8 points per game) and rebounder (9.2 per game) this season, could miss the team's home bout against unranked Notre Dame at 7 p.m. ET Tuesday. He and fellow freshman forward Mark Mitchell are the only two Blue Devils who have played and started every game.

"We don't know his status yet," Scheyer noted. "He's getting treatment this morning. He'll get an MRI, but we don't know yet."

So not only did the officials hose Filipowski and the unranked Blue Devils (17-8, 8-6 ACC) by not rewarding him with a trip to the foul line at the end of regulation that could have won the game for Duke at Virginia, but the 7-footer is now dealing with an injury from that very play. Ouch.

"For me, I'm angry still," Scheyer explained about the situation. "I'd be lying to you if I said I wasn't. Saturday was a disappointing outcome. Of course, all of us saw the ACC's release, and I respect them for putting it out. I respect them for acknowledging it. And obviously, it doesn't change the outcome that our guys didn't get the opportunity to earn a win...

"So, for me, it's not OK."
