Duke Basketball: Turnovers Aside, Kyle Filipowski Enjoys Career Night
In Duke basketball's 89-68 home win over unranked Hofstra on Tuesday night, Kyle Filipowski's 17 points entering halftime (7-for-9 shooting from the field, 1-for-2 from three, 2-for-3 at the line) were the most by any Blue Devil in a first half this season.
If not for the sophomore forward's early scoring prowess, not to mention his five rebounds, four assists, and two blocks before the break, the No. 21 Blue Devils (7-3, 0-1 ACC) probably would've been in the locker room facing a deficit against the hot-shooting Pride.
Instead, Duke led, 44-39.
By game's end, Filipowski sat only two assists shy of what would have been the first triple-double by any Blue Devil since Wendell Moore Jr. against Army in November 2021.
Speaking of Moore, Kyle Filipowski and senior guard Jeremy Roach, whose eight assists marked his season high, became the first two Duke basketball players to each dish out eight or more dimes in a game since Roach and Moore against Syracuse in January 2022.
Filipowski's double-double was the 19th of his career. And the 7-footer became the first ACC player to record at least 28 points (a season high but one shy of his career high), 12 rebounds, and eight assists in a contest since at least 2010-11.
The projected 2024 lottery pick added three blocks and one steal across his 36 minutes. He shot 10-for-16 from the field, 4-for-7 beyond the arc (those four makes were another career high), and 4-for-5 at the charity stripe.
Although impressive, Filipowski's performance leaves room for improvement, evident in his career-high seven turnovers.
