The most and least productive Duke lineups against Colorado State
With a deeper than usual Duke team, coach Mike Krzyzewski continues to mix and match to try to find the best combination of players on the floor.
Krzyzewski used 21 different lineups in the win over Colorado State.
Amazingly, 17 of them were not used in the previous win over Kansas. Only two of those 17 were used in the two exhibition games. So Krzyzewski used 15 brand-new lineups on Friday night.
The lineup that he credited for turning the game, in the eight minutes surrounding the half, was Alex O’Connell, Javin DeLaurier, Tre Jones, Cassius Stanley and Jack White.
“That group at the end of the half really played the best eight minutes of the game, or the last four minutes of the first half and first four minutes of the second half. Jack, Javin, Alex, Cassius, and Tre just found a rhythm defensively and offensively and boom we had it,” Krzyzewski said.
That group had been used once, during exhibition play, and had outscored the opponent 4-3.
Things were very different against Colorado State. That fivesome got nine minutes 58 seconds of playing time, nearly a quarter of the game, and outscored the Rams 29-6.
That was the most efficient lineup of the game by far:
“I thought they did an outstanding job, so we just went with it , but jeez the differential in those eight minutes was a lot,” Coach K said.
Krzyzewski will continue to tinker and see if he can find another group to match the magic of that one.
“We’re going to play a lot of guys and see what works,” he said. “Hopefully we’re going to find different groups. that doesn’t mean that’s our starting lineup. Maybe, but I don’t want to get into that. I want to get into guys playing, playing hard and you might find something in practice or during a game, because we can improve a lot.”
