Casey Holman Named Midseason Freshman All-American
Duke’s offensive line has allowed just seven sacks this season, tenth fewest in the country. The Blue Devils also are seventh best in the nation at stopping tackles for loss.
The line is allowing 3.71 tackles for loss, which leads the ACC. The line has cleared a path for the offense to gain 1,122 rushing yards and 1,248 passing yards so far this season.
One of the key components of the offensive line has been a redshirt freshman in left tackle Casey Holman.
Holman’s performance has earned him a spot on the Football Writers Association of America (FWAA) Freshman All-American Midseason Watch List.
A total of 70 first-year players were named to the watch list. It will be cut down, approximately in half, at the end of the season for the Freshman All-American team. Thirty of the 70 watch listers are, like Holman, redshirt freshmen, while the rest are true freshmen.
Holman is one of 12 offensive linemen on the watch list. Boston College’s Tyler Vrabel is the only other ACC lineman honored.
ACC players at other positions on the team include UNC QB Sam Howell, Louisville RB Javian Hawkins, Miami DL Gregory Rousseau, Clemson DL Tyler Davis, Pitt DL Habakkuk Baldonado and NC State LB Payton Wilson.
Other freshmen All-American Watch Listers on Duke’s schedule this season are Alabama OL Evan Neal, LB Shane Lee and LB Christian Harris and Notre Dame DB Kyle Hamilton and OL Jarrett Patterson.
