Preparations for the inaugural season of the new XFL are under way, and as Vince McMahon's company gets ready they have invited players to enter their first ever draft. Over the past week the league's Twitter account has been tweeting out invite lists for the draft.

The XFL is made up of eight teams, and will be holding their first player draft on October 15 and 16. The league unveiled over 1000 players who will be draft eligible. The league kicks off in February 2020.

One former Duke Blue Devil is in the draft pool: Wide receiver Max McCaffrey.

The older brother of current Carolina Panthers running back Christian McCaffrey and son of former Giants receiver Ed, McCaffrey played for Duke from 2012 to 2015. He started 38 of 53 games, catching 117 passes for 1,341 yards and 12 touchdowns.

The McCaffrey family has a long history with Duke athletics. Grandfather Dave Sime was first-team All-ACC in baseball and a two time MVP in track. He also spent a year on the football team as a receiver. His uncle, Scott Sime was a fullback for the Blue Devils from 1981 to 1984, and his uncle Billy McCaffrey was a shooting guard on Duke’s first national championship team.

McCaffrey was a two-time Academic All-ACC and is still No. 18 on Duke’s all-time catches list. After finishing his Duke career, he went undrafted by the NFL and spent time on the roasters of the Raiders, Packers and Saints without getting into a game. He made his NFL debut with the Jaguars in 2017, catching a pass for four yards in five games. He also played in a game for the 49ers in 2018
