Duke Basketball One-And-Done Gets Another Shot to Impress NBA

At least for now, Duke basketball product Trevor Keels is with the Timberwolves.

Former Duke basketball guard Trevor Keels probably won't end up on the Minnesota Timberwolves' regular-season roster. After all, they filled their final two-way contract by re-signing Matt Ryan on Tuesday.

But on Monday, The Athletic's Jon Krawczynski reported that "the Timberwolves have reached an agreement with Trevor Keels on a contract for training camp."

Of course, that doesn't mean the 20-year-old, who went No. 42 overall to the New York Knicks at the 2022 NBA Draft and earned a two-way contract with them for his rookie year last season, will see substantial minutes when the preseason slate gets underway late next week.

Still, something is better than nothing.

If Keels were to shine in the preseason and somehow secure a full-time deal in Minnesota, he would reunite with a 2021-22 Duke basketball teammate in the 22-year-old Wendell Moore Jr., who came off the board 16 spots earlier than Keels in 2022 before averaging 1.4 points across 29 games for the Timberwolves last season.

Trevor Keels played only three games for the New York Knicks last season, totaling three points and two rebounds in eight minutes on the court. The former five-star recruit out of Paul VI Catholic (Va.) spent most of his time with the Westchester Knicks in the G League, averaging 14.5 points per outing.

Then, in late July, he re-signed as a two-way player with the Knicks. However, they waived him a few days later.
