Two Former Duke Basketball Players Joining Sixers for Summer League
Neither DJ Steward, a 2020-21 Duke basketball one-and-done guard, nor Jordan Tucker, a forward who transferred to Butler for two seasons after playing in only two games for the 2017-18 Blue Devils as a freshman, were drafted out of college. And neither has ever seen a minute of action in an NBA regular-season game.
That's unlikely to change next season.
Even so, the 21-year-old Steward and 25-year-old Tucker will hope to show they belong at the NBA Summer League in Las Vegas (July 7-17). Both G League products are on the Philadelphia 76ers' roster for the event.
In late May, Steward played two games for the Vancouver Bandits in the Canadian Elite Basketball League, averaging 21.0 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 5.5 assists in 31.5 minutes per outing. But they waived him on June 10 so that, according to a release from the team, he could "prepare for the upcoming NBA Summer League circuit."
As a member of the G League's Stockton Kings last season, the former McDonald's All-American and five-star recruit from Chicago averaged 12.0 points while shooting 40.5 percent from downtown.

Before heading to Las Vegas, DJ Steward, Jordan Tucker, and the Philadelphia 76ers will be in Utah next week to play three games at the Salt Lake City Summer League (July 3-6).
Their first matchup is against the Memphis Grizzlies at 7 p.m. ET Monday. However, their first nationally televised game is against the Oklahoma City Thunder at 7 p.m. ET Thursday (ESPN2).
