Duke Basketball Recruiting: Big Update on Five-Star VJ Edgecombe

Duke basketball appears firmly in the mix for elite 2024 playmaker VJ Edgecombe.

Two weeks ago, despite being relatively new to the race, the Duke basketball program landed among the 10 finalists for Long Island Lutheran (N.Y.) five-star senior VJ Edgecombe, along with UConn, Baylor, Florida, Florida State, Miami, Michigan, St. John's, Alabama, and G League Ignite.

Now, the Blue Devils are among six set to host the 6-foot-5, 180-pound electric shooting guard for an official visit this fall, 247Sports' Eric Bossi reported on Tuesday afternoon. He will be in Durham the weekend of Oct. 20, coinciding with Countdown to Craziness, Duke's annual preseason celebration and recruiting tool.

Edgecombe, a high-energy perimeter weapon who ranks No. 17 overall on the 247Sports 2024 Composite, begins his slate of official visits with a trip to Florida the weekend of Sept. 16. Then he'll be at Baylor starting on Oct. 7, Michigan on Oct. 14, Duke the following weekend, Alabama on Nov. 4, and Florida State on Nov. 11.

The Duke basketball staff entered the VJ Edgecombe sweepstakes in early July after solidifying an appreciation for his aggressive play on both ends of the floor at the NBPA Top 100 Camp in Orlando, Fla.

Considering Don Bosco Prep (N.J.) combo guard Dylan Harper, No. 2 overall in the class, seems to be trending toward Rutgers over Duke, Edgecombe might be the Blue Devils' best chance at snagging a five-star guard on the 2024 trail.

Although he's indicated no rush to his decision, his jam-packed visit schedule leading up to the November early signing period suggests he may make up his mind around that time.
