On Wednesday, in front of spectators and NBA scouts galore at the Riverview Park Activities Center in North Augusta, S.C., the pair of future archrivals evenly combined for 40 points. Sure, their effort came in an 80-68 loss to Team Final, dropping Team CP3's record to 2-1 this go-round at the nation's annual premier prep showcase.
Nevertheless, Evans and Powell provided an early preview of the scoring prowess in store for the Duke-UNC rivalry the season after next. Most notable was their efficiency as dual threats on the wing.
Isaiah Evans, who ranks No. 18 overall on the 247Sports 2024 Composite as a 6-foot-7, 170-pound long-limbed smooth bucket-getter with hints of former Duke basketball one-and-done Brandon Ingram in his game, heated things up, accounting for 17 of the squad's first 19 points.
His 20 points in 31 minutes on the floor came via 7-for-13 shooting from the field, a 3-for-4 clip from three, and a 3-for-3 mark from the charity stripe. It was his third time in three games scoring precisely 20 points at this year's Peach Jam.
As for Drake Powell, a 6-foot-5, 170-pound versatile playmaker who sits four spots above Evans in the rankings and is one of three early commits in the Tar Heels' top-ranked 2024 haul, he also played all but one of the game's 32 minutes.
He tallied his 20 points by shooting 7-for-12 from the field, 4-for-7 beyond the arc, and 2-for-2 from the foul line, bumping his Peach Jam average to 18.7 points, not to mention 8.0 rebounds and 3.3 assists per game.
Team CP3's next outing is against the 0-3 N.H. Lightning at 6 p.m. ET Thursday.
