Lifelong Duke basketball enthusiast and Montverde Academy (Fla.) senior forward Cooper Flagg has long looked destined to become a Blue Devil. And head coach Jon Scheyer may have just advanced another step in seeing that happen, as his perceived No. 1 threat in the race, Kansas' Bill Self, may no longer be a contender.

According to multiple sources on Monday evening, the 6-foot-9, 200-pound five-star has canceled his trip to Kansas this weekend. The reports suggest he won't reschedule it.

That leaves only one official visit on his calendar: to Duke the weekend of Oct. 20, coinciding with the Blue Devils' Countdown to Craziness festivities in Cameron Indoor Stadium. His only other official visit was to UConn two weekends ago.

Although the Huskies might remain hopeful, the 247Sports Crystal Ball, On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine, and Rivals FutureCast all point to the Blue Devils as the prohibitive favorites to land the Maine native.

Days after checking out the Duke basketball program on an unofficial visit in August, Flagg announced his reclassification from 2025 to 2024, as his December 2006 birthday makes him eligible to become a one-and-done NBA Draft entrant following the 2024-25 season.

He now ranks No. 1 overall on the 247Sports 2024 Composite.

Some insiders expect Copper Flagg, who received an offer from the Blue Devils about a year and a half ago, to reveal his college choice shortly after his upcoming second trip to Duke. However, the 16-year-old phenom has not been specific about a timetable for his decision.

Still, it wouldn't be a surprise to see Duke basketball prevail before the end of this month, just in time for November's early signing period.
