Duke basketball head coach Jon Scheyer and his staff will host Montverde Academy (Fla.) small forward Cooper Flagg for an official visit the weekend of Oct. 20, a return trip to Durham for the prep (he took an unofficial visit with the Blue Devils in early August) but the first time his family will be on campus.

They'll attend Countdown to Craziness.

And according to his mother's chat with The Messenger this week, chances are the 6-foot-9, 200-pound five-star, No. 1 overall on the 247Sports 2024 Composite, announces his decision soon after returning home from his trip to Durham. Cooper Flagg's only other official visit was to UConn in late September.

"Unless he's unbelievably confused, I'm pretty sure he's going to make a decision very quickly after he visits Duke," Kelly Flagg told The Messenger. "That way, he can put it behind him and focus on what he needs to do to get better."

Despite a mass of insiders at multiple sites projecting the Blue Devils to come out on top, which makes sense given the 16-year-old phenom has referred to Duke as his "dream school," Kelly Flagg explained to The Messenger that the Huskies remain a bonafide contender.

"We wouldn't have taken a visit [to UConn]," she noted, "if he didn't think it was a place he could see himself at.".

Adding a commitment from Cooper Flagg would almost guarantee Duke basketball a top-ranked recruiting class.

The Blue Devils have snagged early pledges from three elite seniors in Paul VI Catholic (Va.) four-star Darren Harris, Wisconsin Lutheran five-star Kon Knueppel, and North Meck (N.C.) five-star Isaiah Evans. All three are small forwards, a position Scheyer appears to value beyond any other on the 2024 trail.
