Duke Basketball Recruiting: Electric Guard Announces Finalists
Long Island Lutheran (N.Y.) five-star shooting guard VJ Edgecombe, No. 16 overall on the 247Sports 2024 Composite, isn't rushing his recruitment. The 6-foot-5, 180-pound aggressive playmaker and defender hasn't scheduled visits. However, he's mentioned possibly taking one to check out the Duke basketball program soon.

And on Sunday afternoon, Edgecombe included the Blue Devils among his 10 finalists alongside Alabama, Baylor, Florida, Florida State, Miami, Michigan, St. John's, UConn, and G League Ignite.
He held about 20 offers. So he's now cut his list of suitors roughly in half.
Duke basketball head coach Jon Scheyer and his gang didn't officially enter the race until four weeks ago, days after watching him shine at the NBPA Top 100 Camp in Orlando, Fla.
No national recruiting insiders have predicted VJ Edgecombe's eventual landing spot. Again, the coveted recruit has noted in several recent interviews that he will take his time in choosing a college (or the G League Ignite path).
But it looks as though the Blue Devils will likely remain in contention until the end.
"They like that I play hard and that I'm all over the floor and how I play defense," Edgecombe recently told Rivals' Rob Cassidy about the Duke basketball staff when explaining his potential fit in Durham. "They say I fit in because I play as hard as they do."
Thus far, North Meck (N.C.) five-star small forward Isaiah Evans and Paul VI Catholic (Va.) four-star small forward Darren Harris are the Blue Devils' only two 2024 commits.
