Duke Basketball May Not Be Finished Building 2024 Class Just Yet
The Duke basketball recruiting juggernaut has likely already locked up the top spot in the team rankings for the 2024 cycle with an impressive quintet of signees, including four five-star talents. However, the Blue Devils still have a shot at snagging one of the nation's top two undecided high school seniors.

Those targets are Long Island Lutheran School (N.Y.) guard VJ Edgecombe, fifth overall on the 247Sports 2024 Composite, and Don Bosco Prep (N.J.) backcourt maestro Dylan Harper, who ranks below only Duke's premier prize, Montverde (Fla.) five-star forward Cooper Flagg.
Second-year Duke basketball head coach Jon Scheyer and his gang might still be the frontrunner to land Edgecombe, according to national recruiting insider "Trilly Donovan" in his look at what's left following the early signing period, which ended on Wednesday:
There was a ton of Duke buzz for Edgecombe following his visit [in October, coinciding with Countdown to Craziness], and they’re still widely considered the team to beat. Baylor and St. John's are lingering, though. There are mixed sentiments about St. John's, with some saying they're right there and others saying they have no shot. I would consider Baylor the dark horse here. Missing out on Tre Johnson may reignite their efforts to land Edgecombe.
Meanwhile, "Trilly Donovan" noted that "it's Rutgers until it's not for Harper."
But On3's Jamie Shaw still paints the Blue Devils as legit hopefuls in that race:
"Harper told me the last time we spoke with him that there was a good chance he would wait until the late period. Rutgers and Duke are the two schools talked about the most. Harper also visited Indiana and had Auburn and Kansas in his top five."
Rutgers is the unanimous 247Sports Crystal Ball leader for Harper, while all three predictions for Edgecombe still favor the Blue Devils.
Neither VJ Edgecombe nor Dylan Harper has specified a timeline for selecting a winner. The month-long late signing period beginning in mid-April is several months away.
