Duke basketball recruiting: Five-star NC prep on offer watch
While on an unofficial visit in late November, North Meck (N.C.) junior Isaiah Evans joined the Cameron Crazies toward the end of the Duke basketball team's home win over Ohio State.
Two weeks later, Jon Scheyer sent an assistant to check up on the 6-foot-7, 170-pound five-star small forward, whose length and smooth moves bring to mind former Blue Devil one-and-done and current New Orleans Pelicans star Brandon Ingram.
Then Scheyer and Amile Jefferson showed up on Tuesday night to watch Evans in action. It's safe to say that he moved one giant step closer to an offer from the Blue Devils.
With the Duke coaches on hand, Evans tallied 34 points, seven rebounds, and five assists in North Meck's 95-53 win over West Cabarrus in the first round of the NCHSAA 4A Basketball State Playoffs.
Evans has skyrocketed from No. 71 to No. 29 overall on the 247Sports 2024 Composite since December and seems due for another bump.
Meanwhile, Scheyer appears to value long-armed snipers who double as tenacious defenders. And judging by Evans' highlights and the following scouting report from Rivals' Travis Graf this week arguing in favor of his deserved rise in the rankings, he fits that description:
"Isaiah Evans is one of the more intriguing two-way prospects in the 2024 class. A lengthy wing, the four-star has great touch on his jumper, shooting about 40 percent from the outside in 36 games tracked on Cerebro Sports over the last year.
"He's also an anticipatory defender that uses his length to stifle plays. Evans can guard both the wing and guard positions at a high level and is a player I'll be watching closely this spring."
All in all, it sounds like Isaiah Evans should be watching for a Duke basketball offer.
