Duke Basketball Recruiting: Sharpshooting Prep Now Scheduling Visits

Duke basketball could complete its 2024 class construction in the coming months.

A third of the top 60 prospects on the 247Sports 2024 Composite are already off the board, including two Duke basketball commits in four-star small forward Darren Harris and five-star small forward Isaiah Evans. Another third or so will likely announce their decisions by summer's end.

And one candidate to do so is Duke target Tyler Betsey, a 6-foot-8, 185-pound small forward out of St. Thomas More (Conn.) who is the highest-ranked four-star in the class at No. 22 overall. He has held an offer from the Blue Devils since early November.

Despite Jon Scheyer and his gang having already reeled in two high school juniors at Betsey's position, CT Insider's David Borges reported on Friday morning that the long-limbed, smooth floor-spacer plans to take an official visit to Duke in the coming weeks (he did not specify dates). So it seems the Blue Devils remain active.

However, on Friday afternoon, 247Sports' Travis Branham tweeted that Betsey has thus far scheduled only three official visits: to UConn (June 9-11), Indiana (June 14-16), and Creighton (June 19-21).

Considering this upcoming activity in his recruitment, perhaps a commitment could be on the horizon. That said, shortly after the Duke basketball staff traveled north to visit Tyler Betsey in his home in early April, he told 247Sports' Dushawn London that his "process is fairly slow compared to others in the class."

He hasn't named finalists.

The Blue Devils also appear to remain in the mix for at least two other undecided 2024 talents: five-star combo guard Dylan Harper and the latest offer recipient, four-star center Patrick Ngongba II.

While it's too early to know how many current Blue Devils will leave after next season, Duke probably needs only two or three more wins in the 2024 arena. With preps committing earlier and earlier these days, it wouldn't be a surprise to see Scheyer fill his 2024 recruiting needs before the 2023-24 campaign starts in November.
