On Sunday morning, the 24 McDonald's All-Americans participated in a practice open to the media. According to 247Sports' Travis Branham and highlights from the event, McCain, who ranks No. 15 overall on the 247Sports 2023 Composite, was among the handful of standouts.
Here's what Branham wrote about the 6-foot-4, 195-pound upbeat talent's advanced hoops IQ and bucket-manufacturing abilities:
"While he may not have the upside [of others], his immediate impact was on display this morning. McCain functions well both on and off the ball. He has a natural feel and skillset for the game where he knows how to get open and make open shots on the perimeter but can shift onto the ball and create for others. In 2-on-2 ball-screen drills, McCain was clearly the best operator out of ball screens due to his threat as a scorer — particularly as a shooter — and passer coupled with his acumen on how to manipulate the coverage."
And here are some Jared McCain plays from the practice, courtesy of Ballislife.com, that support Branham's observations:
At 7:30 p.m. ET Monday (ESPNU), Sean Stewart, who boasts a No. 13 composite ranking, will compete in the McDonald's Powerade Jam Fest before Jared McCain represents Duke basketball in the 3-point shooting contest.
