Duke Basketball: Something 'Stood Out' in Patrick Ngongba II's Visit

This week, a list cut should be coming for one of Duke basketball's top targets.

Although still relatively new to Duke basketball's 2024 offer sheet, Paul VI Catholic (Va.) big man Patrick Ngongba II has already been on an official visit to Durham. That happened earlier this month. And based on his chat this weekend with On3's Jamie Shaw, it sounds like he fully appreciates what the Blue Devils would have to offer him.

"It was a good visit," Ngongba, No. 42 overall and No. 6 among centers on the 247Sports 2024 Composite, recounted to Shaw. "The coaches were all very energetic from the start of the visit to the time they dropped me back off at the airport. It was a good vibe the whole time...

"Seeing the strength stuff really stood out to me. All that they do for their players behind the scenes, the stuff we don't really see, stood out."

Thus far, the 6-foot-11, 235-pound gifted giant has taken official visits to Duke, Kansas State, Providence, and UConn.

While no insiders have predicted Ngongba's college destination, it's safe to say Kansas State head coach Jerome Tang has prioritized him. He showed up to watch him at DMV Live in Maryland this weekend, along with three assistants. One is Jareem Dowling, whom Ngongba has known almost all his life, the coveted prep told Shaw.

Patrick Ngongba II, who attends the same school and plays on the same Nike EYBL squad as 2024 Duke basketball four-star commit Darren Harris, also informed Shaw that he's considering upcoming visits to Indiana, Iowa, and Virginia.

Before the end of June, meaning one day this week, Ngongba plans to announce finalists. Then, as he forecasted to Shaw, he will "probably end up committing in the fall."
