Duke Basketball Coaches Now Talking to Premier Shooting Guard
Cuyahoga Valley (Ohio) five-star shooting guard Darryn Peterson isn't the highest-ranked prospect to hear from the Duke basketball staff since the 2025 direct-contact period began on Thursday. No, the Blue Devils have eyes on at least five of the top six players in the class (and six of the top 10).
But at No. 4 on the 247Sports 2025 Composite, the 6-foot-5, 195-pound crafty bucket-getter is the highest-ranked guard on Duke's 2025 radar, not to mention the highest-ranked guard among all rising high school juniors, period.
Peterson hasn't reported an offer from the Blue Devils but has seen members of Jon Scheyer's staff at several of his games across the past year.
In late April, Duke coaches saw him score 46 points in a Phenom United win on the Adidas 3SSB circuit.
Then earlier this month, assistant Jai Lucas was in Mexico, watching Darryn Peterson, along with long-time 2025 Duke basketball targets Cameron Boozer and Cayden Boozer and another potential target in Koa Peat, dominate for the USA U16 National Team at the FIBA Americas Championship.

Although Peterson was not Team USA's leading scorer across its six games — he tied Cameron Boozer for the second-most points behind Peat — his average of 16.8 points in only 17.7 minutes per outing made him the top per-minute scorer. And he was the most efficient, shooting 66.7 percent from the field and 42.9 percent from three.
One would think Peterson has a strong chance at landing on the Blue Devil wishlist eventually. He holds roughly two dozen offers, including from Duke basketball's primary recruiting rivals, UNC and Kentucky.
Meanwhile, Scheyer's only extended offers in the class are to the Boozer twins, five-star small forward Cooper Flagg, and five-star point guard Meleek Thomas.
