Two Duke Basketball Signees See Huge Jumps in Ranking
All four 2023 Duke basketball recruiting prizes now sit among the top 25 in their class, at least in the eyes of 247Sports. The site revealed its final 2023 ranking on Thursday, with changes in the stock of each of the future Blue Devils.
Two of them, Centennial (Calif.) combo guard Jared McCain and Worcester (Mass.) power forward TJ Power, enjoyed double-digit jumps.
McCain, a 6-foot-4, 195-pound sturdy bucket-getter, rose from No. 26 to No. 13 (No. 15 on the 247Sporst 2023 Composite). As for Power, the 6-foot-8, 210-pound polished stretch-four also climbed 13 spots; he now ranks No. 15 (No. 19 composite).
But the other two members of Jon Scheyer's heralded collection, Montverde (Fla.) power forward Sean Stewart and Notre Dame (Calif.) point guard Caleb Foster, dropped in the updated ranking.
Stewart, a 6-foot-8, 230-pound aggressive bruiser, fell eight notches to No. 20 (No. 16 composite). At No. 21 is Foster, a 6-foot-5, 190-pound smooth playmaker who dropped from No. 19 and is now the lowest-ranked 2023 Blue Devil signee, per 247Sports (yet just above Power with his No. 18 composite ranking).
Nevertheless, each of the incoming Duke basketball talents boasts a five-star composite rating, even though 247Sports alone now shows Stewart and Foster as mere four-star prospects.
And the Blue Devil haul remains No. 2 in the nation behind Kentucky. Last go-round, in Scheyer's first recruiting cycle calling the shots before becoming the program's head coach following Mike Krzyzewski's retirement in April 2022, Duke ended up with the top-ranked class.
While Scheyer & Co. might still add to the 2023-24 roster via the transfer portal, their efforts on the 2023 recruiting trail appear complete.
Barring any late transfers, five players in the Blue Devils' seven-deep 2022 class will return to Durham as sophomores next season. Three are returning starters: point guard Tyrese Proctor, small forward Mark Mitchell, and power forward Kyle Filipowski, the reigning ACC Rookie of the Year.
Their presence should prove beneficial in helping the four 2023 newcomers get accustomed to Duke basketball standards.
