East Tennessee State announced that head coach George Quarles will not return as head coach next season.

"I met with Coach Quarles earlier today and informed him that we have decided to go in a different direction with the program. I appreciate all that Coach Quarles has done for our student-athletes, ETSU, and the community. We wish him and his family the best," ETSU athletic director Dr. Richard Sander said.

Quarles is 6-16 (3-13 SoCon) over two seasons as the head coach of the Buccaneers. ETSU was coming off an 11-win season and an appearance in the FCS quarterfinals when Quarles stepped in as head coach.

He previously served as the associate head coach and offensive coordinator at Furman (2018-21) prior to his stint at East Tennessee State. Quarles was also the head coach at Maryville High School from 1999-2016.
