High-choice Gators tight end target Eric Karner trimmed an extensive offer sheet of 21 programs to five Thursday morning, placing Florida alongside Alabama, Iowa, Michigan State and Texas A&M.

The Gators recently offered Karner on April 27, making up ground quickly to remain in the hunt for his services at this stage.

At the prep level, Karner has worked in a variety of positions within the Elmhurst (Ill.) Immaculate Conception offense, where he's produced as an athletic, big-bodied pass catcher from the slot, boundary and traditional in-line tight end spot.

The constant movement in the formation highlights Karner's knack for working the seam and winning contested balls through the passing game.

His versatility mimics current Gators tight end Arlis Boardingham during his high school career.

Standing at 6-foot-5, 220 pounds, Karner has flashed a strong blocking prowess as well, with power at the point of attack, firm hands and an anchored base to stick on blocks for the duration of the play. His frame suggests more weight can be added without losing the coveted athleticism and nimbleness that makes him a dynamic receiving threat.

Despite possessing just a three-star ranking, per 247Sports Composite, Karner has drawn considerable attention from several powerhouse programs in college football, exemplified within his top schools.

Placing the perennial championship contender, Alabama, and a tight-end production factory, Iowa, alongside Florida, TE coach Russ Callaway will have a tough road ahead to pin down the talented in-line player in the coming months. However, a June 9-11 official visit and the drastic need at the position this cycle bode well for UF.

In addition to Karner, the Gators are also heavily involved with Hiram (Ga.) tight end Walter Matthews, who they hope to be the headlining act of a two-man class at the position.

The duo is set to officially visit Gainesville on the same weekend.
