Todd Golden has closed in on his first commit of the 2024 recruiting class as Orlando Christian Prep shooting guard Isaiah Brown made a Mother’s Day pledge to the Gators.
The nation’s No. 112 overall prospect and No. 22 shooting guard chose Florida over offers from Georgia, Missouri and 12 others on Sunday.
“First of all I would love to thank God, and I would like to thank my family and coaches for leading me in my decision and helping me throughout the process,” he said in a post to Twitter.
“I would love to announce that I will be committing to the University of Florida. Go Gators!”
Brown’s alignment in Gainesville comes after an early January offer from Florida, according to his Twitter, his first from the Power Six. It’s a much-needed victory on the recruiting trail in the backcourt for the staff, especially after missing out on elite point guard Dedan Thomas Jr. — who committed to UNLV — earlier Sunday.
So far in Golden’s tenure, the Orlando-area has served as a hotspot for the Gators recruiting efforts as they’ve now pulled in three prospects from the central Florida city.
Shooting guard Riley Kugel, a Dr. Phillips product, serves as the face of the Gators franchise heading into his sophomore season after a stellar year-one campaign. He’s slated to earn NBA Draft status with another productive year in 2023-24, already receiving buzz as a potential lottery selection.
His high school teammate and fellow UF signee in the 2022 class Denzel Aberdeen is expected to serve as a backup point guard option heading into the upcoming campaign.
Florida hopes the addition of Brown can serve as a kickstart to bring in other top-tier talents in the current cycle.
Frontcourt pieces Flory Bidunga and John Bol arise as the top players on the Gators board at the moment, regardless of position.
