Gators Guard Target Tylor Perry Prioritizing 8 Teams in Portal Recruitment
High-choice Gators transfer portal target Tylor Perry is prioritizing eight schools in his recruitment: Alabama, Arkansas, Baylor, Florida, Louisville, Oklahoma State, Ole Miss and Texas Tech.
The former North Texas standouts reportedly named the collection of programs to College Basketball Report on Thursday.
Perry recently visited Gainesville just three days removed from his official entry into the transfer portal, spending multiple days around the UF program and coaching staff.
He’s currently reported to be on campus at Arkansas, giving Razorbacks head coach Eric Musselman an opportunity to sell him on joining for next year’s campaign.
However, the Hogs have already brought in five guards this offseason as they look to replenish their backcourt. Three of which — Tramon Mark (Houston), Keyon Menifield (Washington) and Layden Booker (five-star high school product) align in the point guard spot Perry occupies.
Florida, on the other hand, has added just one guard to the roster after seeing three depart from a season ago. Walter Clayton Jr., an Iona transfer who recently announced his pledge to the Gators, has the capacity to serve as the primary ball handler at the one if needed but is naturally a two-guard at the collegiate level.
That leaves an opening for Perry to slide in as a starter at the one, compared to the bevy of bodies he’d have to work against to earn playing time in Fayetteville, Ark.
It’s unknown what his commitment timeframe looks like at this time, but Florida will be a viable option for Perry as he sifts through his potential landing destinations moving forward.
His score-first skillset as a primary ball handler at North Texas — averaging 17.3 points per game on 43.7% from the field and 41.3% from three — bodes well for Todd Golden’s attack in year two as the ability to score in isolation when offensive sets run stale is a focal point for the unit this offseason.
The Gators currently hold three transfer signees in Clayton, forward EJ Jarvis and center Micah Handlogten and two members from the 2023 high school recruiting class in forwards Alex Condon and Thomas Haugh.
As a result of Alex Fudge’s departure, Florida still holds four scholarship openings to dish out to prospects to fill the roster.
