Florida EDGE Antwaun Powell-Ryland Jr. Entering Transfer Portal

Florida edge rusher Antwaun Powell-Ryland Jr. tweeted on Friday that he will enter the transfer portal.

Florida edge rusher Antwaun Powell-Ryland Jr. tweeted on Friday that he intends to enter the transfer portal.

No reason was provided for Powell-Ryland's decision to transfer away from Florida by press time. A rising fourth-year junior and underclassman, he is eligible to enter the portal between Apr. 15-30.

A native of Portsmouth, Va., Powell-Ryland signed with Florida as a member of the 2020 recruiting class as a consensus four-star prospect out of Indian River High School. He appeared in 27 games with the Gators, making five starts and totaling 34 tackles, 4.5 sacks, 7.5 tackles for loss, one pass breakup and three forced fumbles in that stretch.

Powell-Ryland is the second Florida player to leave the team this spring. Redshirt freshman offensive tackle David Conner left the program during spring training camp and has since entered the transfer portal.

Including four anticipated class of 2023 enrollments in the coming weeks and Powell-Ryland's expected departure, Florida's 2023 roster is currently comprised of 81 scholarship members entering the summer.

Florida is set to enter the 2023 season with six scholarship edge rushers on its roster: Junior Princely Umanmielen, redshirt sophomore Justus Boone, sophomore Jack Pyburn and true freshmen Kelby Collins, T.J. Searcy and Kamran James

Umanmielen, an 11-game starter at defensive end for UF in 2022, is an incumbent first-teamer at one of Florida's two edge rushing spots. Umanmielen compiled 4.5 sacks and 9.5 tackles for loss in a breakout campaign a season ago.

Additionally, inside linebacker Scooby Williams notably earned reps with the edge rushers in certain situations throughout Florida's spring camp. The Gators' coaching staff has spoken glowingly of Williams' skill set and believes he can contribute at both positions.
