Former Connecticut quarterback Micah Leon has transferred to Florida as a graduate student and walk-on, All Gators has learned via multiple sources.
Leon, who transferred into the program on Jan. 20, joins the Gators with one season of collegiate eligibility remaining after leaving Connecticut before the 2022 season.
Leon transferred to UConn from North Carolina State in 2019, joining the Huskies with three seasons of eligibility remaining. He made his debut with the program in Nov. 2021 against No. 24 Houston, the lone appearance of his college career, and completed 10-of-13 passes for 62 yards.
A product of Delray Beach (Fla.) American Heritage B/D, Leon signed with N.C. State as a walk-on in the class of 2017 and did not take the field for the Wolfpack before transferring up north to Connecticut on scholarship. Leon threw for 1,085 yards and 11 touchdowns during his senior season of high school, adding 555 yards and 11 scores on the ground.
Leon joins a Florida quarterback room currently consisting of Wisconsin transfer and redshirt junior Graham Mertz, redshirt sophomore Jack Miller III, redshirt freshman Max Brown, and freshman walk-on Parker Leise. UF also picked up a freshman walk-on commitment from Chattanooga (Tenn.) Christian School's Jordan Gile on Jan. 25.
Miller and Brown are the lone returning quarterbacks on Florida's roster from the 2022 season, after starter Anthony Richardson entered the 2023 NFL Draft, backup Jalen Kitna was dismissed following his Nov. 2022 arrest, and walk-ons Kyle Engel and Jack Anders left the team.
Brown's availability for 2023 spring camp is expected to be limited after he joined the Gators' baseball team in January.
Not to mention, Florida suffered a major setback at the position when class of 2023 signee Jaden Rashada was released from his National Letter of Intent in January after the crumbling of a Name, Image and Likeness agreement with third parties surrounding UF athletics.
Napier shared on Feb. 1 that Florida will pursue another scholarship quarterback in the transfer portal following spring practices.
"We definitely will be in the market in the spring," Napier said about the quarterback position. "There'll be, you know, I think if there presents an opportunity, there's a player that passes evaluation, we certainly would be the market for another player there."
