Florida Cracks AP Top 25 After Upset Victory Over Tennessee
GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- Florida’s stunning, 29-16 demolition of No. 11 Tennessee on Saturday has vaulted the Gators into the Associated Press Top 25 rankings entering Week 4 of the 2023 season.
UF took spot No. 25 on the poll.
Florida’s inclusion marks its return to the list after falling out of the top 25 roughly a year ago, coincidentally following a 38-33 loss to Tennessee in Knoxville.
The Gators made an internally historic jump, from unranked territory to No. 12, after beating then-No. 7 Utah at home in Billy Napier’s debut game as the program’s head coach in 2022.
Their rise from a brutal loss to formerly No. 14 Utah in Week 1 and not receiving a single vote in Week 2, to No. 25 this week, might not be as grand as last year’s poll entry, but it feels similar in significance given the rather lowly expectations that surrounded the Gators before and during the season up until Saturday night.
