Kingsley Eguakun Set to Return, Three Gators Out of Florida vs. Georgia

Three players appear on the Gators' injury report ahead of Florida's Week 9 matchup against Georgia in Jacksonville.

GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- The Gators used the bye week to get healthy heading into their bout with the Georgia Bulldogs on Saturday afternoon.

Most notably, center Kingsley Eguakun, who's missed five of Florida's seven contests in 2023, highlights the list of three upgrades from the Week 7 injury report with no new additions.

  • WR Caleb Douglas (lower body) — out
  • WR Thai Chiaokhiao-Bowman (lower body) — out
  • TE Jonathan Odom (upper body) — out

Florida's operated without arguably their most integral offensive lineman for a majority of the season as starting center Egukaun moved in and out of the lineup due to an ankle injury suffered in fall camp.

However, the week off offered the redshirt junior valuable time to rehabilitate and recuperate, giving UF a considerable boost upfront for what they hope will be the remainder of the year. Eguakun will be available to retake his starting center spot in his hometown to lead the offensive line as it operates across from the star-studded Georgia defensive front in Week 9.

True freshman wideout Andy Jean and redshirt senior tight end Dante Zanders also come off the injury report after missing time in Week 7 while they nursed their respective hurts.

Wide receiver Caleb Douglas remains sidelined after suffering a lower leg injury in Florida's 33-14 loss to Kentucky. Head coach Billy Napier shared that Douglas would be out of action for 4-6 weeks as he recovers from his hurt on Oct. 2.

He's joined by Thai Chiaokhiao-Bowman — who nurses his own injury — as an unavailable wideout against the Bulldogs. Chiaokhiao-Bowman has become a mainstay on the Gators' injury report throughout the 2023 season, having yet to appear for UF during the campaign.

Tight end Jonathan Odom will miss his third game in a row after suffering a concussion against Kentucky, which limited him to two offensive snaps in Week 5. He also did not take the field versus Charlotte in Week 4.

Kickoff for the annual matchup between Florida and Georgia in Jacksonville (Fla.) is set for Saturday at 3:30 p.m. ET on CBS.
