Florida announced its transfer acquisition of former Coahoma Community College running back JaKobi Jackson on Thursday evening.
Jackson, a rising junior, joins Florida on scholarship, leaving the Gators with two scholarship roster openings ahead of the 2023 season.
A product of Pensacola (Fla.) Catholic in the class of 2020, Jackson took the junior college route to begin his career and immediately made a name for himself out of the Tigers' backfield with four total touchdowns in three games as a freshman.
He went on to appear in 20 contests in three seasons for Coahoma Community College, rushing 276 times for 1,390 yards and 14 touchdowns with 14 receptions for 115 yards and two touchdowns in the passing game.
Jackson entered the transfer portal following the 2022 season and briefly committed to Charleston Southern this offseason. He backed off of that pledge on Wednesday.
Jackson enters a crowded running back room at Florida, headlined by junior Montrell Johnson Jr. and sophomore Trevor Etienne, who combined for 1,560 yards and 16 touchdowns in 2022. Sixth-year senior Tulane transfer Cam Carroll and freshman Treyaun Webb also offer depth at the position.
However, as another experienced contributor at the position, Jackson is likely to receive opportunities on special teams with the Gators and could contend for a role within the offense behind the tandem of Johnson and Etienne.
