Update on Florida OL Micah Mazzccua Following Transfer Portal Tweet

Offensive lineman Micah Mazzccua originally shared plans to transfer from Florida on Thursday evening.

UPDATE: Florida offensive lineman Micah Mazzccua deleted his Thursday evening tweet, suggesting plans to re-enter the transfer portal, by Friday morning. All Gators can confirm that Mazzccua remains with the team at this time, and his page on the program's 2023 spring roster is still active.

Mazzccua, a fourth-year junior, joined the Gators in January following three seasons with the Baylor Bears. The Philadelphia, Pa. native was not observed during the media viewing window of Florida's Thursday spring practice but was present at the team's facility following the workout, AG has learned.

Provided his status as a transfer student and non-graduate at Florida, Mazzccua would be forced to sit out the 2023 season if he were to transfer to another program and is not eligible to enter the portal until April 15 when the NCAA's next transfer portal window opens.

Florida offensive guard Micah Mazzccua intends to enter the transfer portal following approximately two months with the program, he announced on Thursday evening.

"Appreciate [head] coach [Billy] Napier and his staff but I feel it’s best for me to put myself back in the portal," Mazzccua tweeted.

In accordance with the NCAA's new transfer portal windows, Mazzccua will be able to officially enter the portal between April 15-30 as an underclassman.

Mazzccua was notably absent from Florida's spring practice on Thursday, day six of spring camp, as reported by All Gators. Right tackle Damieon George Jr. also was not observed in attendance.

Already a member of Florida's first-team offensive line in the early stages of 2023 spring camp, Mazzccua transferred into the program from Baylor in January, one of several key acquisitions the Gators made to replace four departures from its starting offensive line unit of the 2022 season.

In December, UF lost 2022 starting left tackle Richard Gouraige and right guard O'Cyrus Torrence to the NFL Draft while starting left guard Ethan White and right tackle Michael Tarquin both transferred to Southern California.

"Mazzccua, he’s played a little bit more football than the others," Napier noted on March 11, referencing the trio of offensive line transfers Florida welcomed this offseason, including George and offensive tackle Kiyaunta Goodwin

"But, you know, he’s 6-[foot]-4 and three quarters, 320 pounds and really can move, plays well in the second level, good demeanor about him, big football IQ is there; been pleased with how he’s picked things up. Lot of carryover there, systematic."

Mazzccua appeared in 20 games during his three seasons at Baylor, making ten starts as a redshirt sophomore in 2022. He allowed just one sack and 11 pressures on the year in pass protection, according to Pro Football Focus.

Redshirt sophomore Jake Slaughter and redshirt freshman Christian Williams appeared to rotate as the first-team left guard in place of Mazzccua during Thursday's practice, while redshirt freshman guard Jalen Farmer was limited and wearing a no-contact jersey as he has been all spring.

This story will be updated as further details emerge.
