Watch: Florida WR Ricky Pearsall Enters Catch of the Year Conversation
GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- Wow.
Florida senior wide receiver Ricky Pearsall made what is virtually guaranteed to lead SportsCenter's Top 10 plays on Saturday night, producing a stretching, one-handed grab that ended in a pop by two Charlotte defenders that failed to knock the ball loose.
The tackle attempts were reviewed for targeting, a penalty that ultimately was not called by the referees.
No description could do Pearsall's catch justice. Watch it below.
Florida quarterback Graham Mertz, on 1st and 10 from UF's 44-yard line halfway through the first quarter of Week 4, recognized an open Pearsall down the right seam and hit the receiver right in stride, albeit in a congested area as 49ers defenders closed in.
But they were no match for the Gators' shifty slot receiver, who displayed incredible concentration and right-hand strength to haul the pass in.
At the time this story was published, Pearsall had accumulated four receptions for 79 yards in the game and 24 catches for 337 yards and one touchdown on the season, through just over three appearances.
