Gators pass rusher Jonathan Greenard earns SEC Defensive Lineman of the Week honors
It didn't take long for Jonathan Greenard to make the impact that Florida hoped to get from him.
The graduate-transfer pass rusher, who recorded 1.5 sacks, two tackles for loss, and six total tackles was named the co-SEC Defensive Lineman of the Week for the first slate of the 2019 college football season. Greenard shares the honors with nose tackle D.J. Dale of Alabama, who recorded 0.5 tackles for loss and three total tackles.
Greenard also posted seven quarterback pressures and a pass-rush win-rate of 21.1%, according to Pro Football Focus. He was a key component for Florida's pass-rushing success against Miami - the unit recorded 10 sacks on the night.
This is quite the comeback story for Greenard, who missed the entire 2018 season sans the first nine snaps with a broken wrist. He suffered the injury in Louisville's season-opening game against Alabama, in the same stadium that he made his debut for Florida - Camping World Stadium in Orlando, FL.
The 6-3, 263 lb. edge rusher could very well earn this honor again in 2019, as he consistently displayed his ability to disrupt the passing game against the Hurricanes at the BUCK pass-rushing position.
We're only through one game, but it looks like losing Jachai Polite to the NFL didn't hurt the Gators too much after all. The pass rush is in good hands with Jonathan Greenard and Co.
