Florida Gators in Top Five for 2021 Safety Ahmari Harvey
The Florida Gators find themselves in a good spot in their recruitment of 2021 safety prospect Ahmari Harvey. The Florida State University High School (Tallahassee, Fla.) product had just unveiled his top five schools, and Florida made the cut.
The Gators are joined by Florida State, Auburn, Texas A&M and LSU. Florida previously made Harvey's top seven on February 14th, about two weeks following an unofficial visit for UF's February junior day event.
Harvey, 5-11, 175 lbs., is considered the No. 8 safety and No. 179 overall prospect in the 2021 class by the 247Sports Composite Rankings. Possessing great coverage skills and solid athleticism, Harvey is a candidate to play free safety in the Gators' scheme and expand the secondary's coverage arsenal by offering single-high range.
During his junior campaign (14 games), Harvey compiled 94 total tackles, a sack, six tackles for loss, six interceptions, 10 defended passes, and four forced fumbles. Also playing offense, Harvey added 40 receptions for 642 yards (16.1 yards per reception), and seven touchdowns.
Harvey previously posted a 4.7-second 40-yard dash and 35.3-inch vertical jump at the 2019 Opening Regionals, as well as an 11.39-second 100-meter dash for his school track team the same year.
Playing high school ball 20 minutes away from Florida State and for a high school named after the university - as well as the sports teams going by the Seminoles - Harvey has obvious ties to FSU and their placement in his top five was pretty easy to project.
However, the Gators and several other schools have pushed for his services and considering UF's need for safeties in the 2021 class, this race will be one to watch. Harvey previously praised Florida's "family culture" in an interview with Sports Illustrated - AllGators.
Florida finds itself in the top schools' lists for fellow 2021 safeties Donovan McMillon (Peters Township, Pa.) and Corey Collier Jr. (Miami Palmetto, Fla.).
