Gators quarterback commit DJ Lagway has earned his fifth star.

On Thursday, 247Sports released its updated rankings of 2024 prospects at just over the halfway point of the 2023 prep campaign. The Florida quarterback pledge notably boosted his rating, jumping 27 spots from No. 43 to No. 16 overall.

He overtakes Alabama quarterback commit Julian Sayin as the nation's second-rated signal-caller in the cycle behind Georgia pledge Dylan Raiola. The ascension earns Lagway his fifth star via the 247Sports Player Rating.

He was already considered a composite ranking five-star.

"I think he might be the most physically gifted quarterback in the 2024 cycle," 247Sports' Director of Scouting Andrew Ivins said on Thursday via the network's College Football Recruiting Show on YouTube.

"NFL executives drooled over Anthony Richardson. They also drooled over Josh Allen. Big-framed mobile quarterbacks that can let it rip. We are drooling over DJ Lagway."

Lagway has proved to be an uber-productive passer for Willis (Texas) High School, showcasing the arm strength, prowess to make throws from the pocket and on the move and rushing ability that has earned him vast recognition since his first offer rolled in on June 8, 2021.

He's accounted for 2,292 yards, 36 touchdowns and four interceptions on 75% completion through the air while adding 346 yards and five scores on the ground through seven games of his senior campaign.

The uptick in efficiency, according to Ivins, is the most significant contributor to his move into five-star territory in the new rankings release.

Amid his impressive final season at Willis, Lagway's also served as an active recruiter for the Gators down the stretch of the 2024 cycle, making the trek from the Lone Star State to the University of Florida for three of the team's four home games so far this season.

Most recently, Lagway attended the homecoming bout against Vanderbilt, where he focused on luring a potential blindside protector, IMG Academy offensive tackle Jordan Seaton, to Florida.

Following the ratings update, the Gators recruiting class moves back into the No. 3 spot on the 247Sports team rankings after briefly being jumped by Texas A&M.

Lagway will be back in action on Friday as the Willis Wildkats (7-0) take on district opponent Caney Creek Panthers (3-3).
