After reportedly being released from his signed National Letter of Intent with Texas, class of 2024 interior defensive line prospect D'antre Robinson announced his commitment to Florida on Friday.
Following a recruitment that included Florida up until his July 2023 commitment to Texas, the Orlando (Fla.) Jones High School product elected to reconsider his collegiate options after Longhorns defensive line coach Bo Davis, the prospect's primary recruiter to UT, left the program on Jan. 10 to become LSU's defensive coordinator.
But rather than follow Davis to The Boot State, Robinson quickly rekindled his relationship with his home state squad.
He did so after Florida dismissed his primary recruiter to school, Sean Spencer, and hired Gerald Chatman from Tulane to occupy defensive line coaching duties in December.
Robinson had been pursued by the Gators since receiving a scholarship offer from the team in 2021, from its previous coaching staff. Current Florida head coach Billy Napier and his assistants continued those efforts well into the 2024 recruiting cycle, hosting Robinson on at least five campus visits up until his signing with Texas.
"They want to use me all over the D-line," Robinson told All Gators in June 2023 after his official visit to Florida. "They feel I could do stunts and they feel I can be a first, second and third down player so that's what they really like about me."
Considered the No. 34 defensive lineman and No. 252 overall prospect in the class of 2024 by the 247Sports composite rankings, Robinson accumulated 216 total tackles with 42 for loss, 21 sacks, an interception and two forced fumbles over 34 appearances in three varsity seasons at Jones High School.
Robinson joins edge rusher LJ McCray and interior lineman Michai Boireau in Florida's 2024 recruiting class. McCray and Boireau both enrolled at the university earlier in January, according to UF.
Additionally, Florida has welcomed three transfers on the defensive front this offseason: edge rushers George Gumbs Jr. from Northern Illinois and Brien Taylor from Blinn College (JUCO), and interior lineman Joey Slackman from Pennsylvania.
