After visiting an SEC rival last week, class of 2025 Gators quarterback pledge Austin Simmons is unofficially visiting Florida on Wednesday.

Gators quarterback commitment and class of 2025 Moore Haven (Fla.) High prospect Austin Simmons is unofficially visiting Florida on Wednesday, multiple sources informed All Gators recruiting reporter Conner Clarke.

Simmons committed to Florida on April 4, offering the Gators a high-profile signal-caller in back-to-back recruiting classes as Simmons would follow Willis (Texas) High 2024 passer DJ Lagway to Gainesville, Fla.

However, concerns were raised when Simmons unofficially visited Ole Miss last Friday, his first trip to a program not named the University of Florida since his springtime pledge to the Gators.

The extent to which Simmons is further surveying his collegiate options is currently unknown. However, Florida's coaching staff will attempt to prevent future visits elsewhere during Simmons' time on campus Wednesday.

Considering Florida's need for a fourth scholarship quarterback, as head coach Billy Napier has stated several times this offseason, Simmons — who has finished his high school classes and claims to possess a 5.34 grade-point average as a dual-enrolled student — has been floated as a candidate to reclassify to the class of 2023 and fill that positional void.

Florida, which currently has two scholarship roster vacancies, is widely believed to be saving a spot for Simmons.

The 6-foot-2, 180-pound Simmons is regarded as the No. 4 quarterback and No. 63 overall prospect in the class of 2025 by the 247Sports composite rankings.

As a sophomore at Pahokee (Fla.) High, Simmons completed 67.4 percent of his passes for 3,161 yards, 24 touchdowns and nine interceptions. He added three touchdowns on the ground.

Simmons broke former NFL wide receiver Anquan Boldin's single-season passing yard record at Pahokee in 2022.
