Gators DB Target Jamari Howard Reschedules Official Visit to Florida
Miami Central defensive back Jamari Howard has been one of the hottest commodities on the recruiting trail since he backed off his long-standing pledge to Michigan State on May 13.
In what’s shaping up to be a tight contest for Howard’s eventual signature this winter between Alabama and in-state schools Florida, Florida State and Miami, the Gators are looking to persuade him toward orange and blue at the collegiate level with a strong showing on his official visit this summer.
He was scheduled to visit Florida on the first of three action-packed weekends.
However, Howard was unable to make the trek from Miami to Gainesville June 2-4.
As a result, the uber-talented corner prospect backed up his Gators official visit date to June 16-18 shortly before the first batch of 2024 official visitors arrived for the festivities on Friday. He confirmed the rescheduled stay at UF with All Gators on Monday.
Entering a 2024 class that poses as an influx of high-level secondary talent, coach Corey Raymond — with assistance from defensive coordinator Austin Armstrong — has been steadfast in his approach to equipping the unit with talent amid his newly expanded role.
Making quick work to sure up the voids in the backend thus far, pulling early commitments from the likes of Xavier Filsaime and Josiah Davis, the renowned defensive backs assistant is still attempting to fill holes on the boundary. Howard — presenting the size, length, speed, instincts and versatility to excel as a man-to-man cover corner collegiately — accordingly aligns as one of his top prospects for the cycle.
It was evident with Florida’s concerted pursuit of the 6-foot-2, 175 pounds DB during his commitment to the Spartans. It’s become even more clear in ensuing weeks post-decommitment.
Prior to his trip to Gainesville, Howard is set to make a return trip to East Lansing June 9-11. It’s the first to the program since he distanced himself less than a month ago.
As the No. 98 overall player in the nation (No. 12 CB) makes steps toward his eventual commitment, the Gators will remain an ever-looming contender for the defender’s services and could be further aided by a memorable three days on campus this month.
